Key articles for residents

Article · in brief

Article 11 · Residents

Residents may not open a private practice or take other paid or unpaid work beyond what training requires. On-call duties are limited to eight per month and not more often than every third day; a resident who works a night shift does not take part in patient care the following day.

Article 13 · Placement and start

Placed candidates apply to the appointing institution within 10 working days of the announcement; appointments are completed within 45 days. The appointment of anyone who does not start work without an acceptable legal reason is cancelled.

Article 16 · Continuity

Training must continue without interruption. If a resident receives two consecutive negative assessments, the Board changes the programme and one year is added to the training period.

Article 17 · Monitoring and assessment

The unit training supervisor creates a logbook for each resident in line with the curriculum, checks it every six months and writes an assessment for each six-month period. The thesis supervisor reviews the thesis work every three months; residents evaluate the training and trainers once a year.

Article 18 · Durations and rotations

Time not actually spent in training does not count, except annual leave and leave for scientific meetings. Training time and rotations are completed at your own institution as a rule; a rotation found insufficient is repeated and its duration is added to the training period.

Article 19 · Residency thesis

A thesis is compulsory in main specialties. The topic and supervisor are set in the first half of training; the thesis is submitted at least three months before training ends. The jury reviews it within one month and holds an oral defence; if it finds the thesis insufficient, it grants six more months.

Article 20 · Exit examination

The examination has two parts: professional knowledge, and practice and skills. The average score of the five-member jury must be at least 60 in each part. A resident who fails or does not attend takes a second examination within three months.

Article 22 · Registration

Exit examination results are sent to the Ministry within 15 days; the specialty certificate is issued and registered by the Ministry.
